The New York Knicks are the reigning, defending 2025-26 NBA champions following a season that gave star guard Jalen Brunson new opportunities and challenges including a lingering wrist injury. New York added an intriguing veteran forward ahead of its title defense and is preparing for its preseason opener against the 76ers on October 5.
On Friday, NBA Today reporter Vincent Goodwill gave an update on Brunson's health status as he continues to recover from his stubborn left wrist injury, which dates back to Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
âÂÂOne thing you didn't see on Jalen Brunson's wrist was a brace because he's at about 80 to 85 percent after that wrist surgery that he had in July. Back to doing basketball activities, he (will have) no restrictions when training camp begins in a couple of weeks as the Knicks begin their bid to repeat,â Goodwill said.

Coach Mike Brown's Knicks will need Brunson at full strength as they prepare to face a long list of Eastern Conference title contenders including LeBron James, Jaylen Brown and the Philadelphia 76ers, Tyrese Haliburton and the Indiana Pacers, and more.
Brown's Knicks will once again rely on Brunson and a defensive-minded core, which could include veteran two-guard Bruce Brown, whom the team signed earlier this week. Brunson showed he could dominate at less than full strength during the NBA Finals, soon it will be time to see what he can do in even better physical condition.
