Kenneth Walker III arrived to the Kansas City Chiefs aiming to reignite a struggling ground attack. The former Seattle Seahawks lead back became the recipient of one trick play dialed up by Andy Reid. But Walker later hit a new milestone in the era of Patrick Mahomes against the Denver Broncos Monday.

The reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player hit this mark: 173 rushing yards in the 31-10 rout at Arrowhead Stadium. That's now the most rushing yards by a single Chiefs player with Mahomes as the quarterback.

Walker found the end zone during the third quarter, bouncing left and delivering this long scoring scamper that covered 60 yards.

Walker showed the same cutting ability that turned him into a beloved 1,000-yard performer for Seattle.

But then his second touchdown came with a shorter field to work with. And with backup quarterback Justin Fields feeding him the football on this exotic lateral.

Walker touched the football 26 different times as the newest weapon for the three-time Super Bowl winning coach Reid. He became everything the Chiefs hoped and much more.

So Walker emerged as the breakthrough performer for the Chiefs. Especially in helping put away the AFC runner ups from last season. Denver put the AFC West on its back and ended up heading to the conference title game, only to fall to the New England Patriots.

Kansas City delivered 220 total rushing yards in debuting Walker and a new, vaunted running attack. And this offense also welcomed back beloved offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who won the three titles of the early 2020s with KC. Now he can help unleash Walker.
