Odell Beckham Jr.'s second stint with the New York Giants came to an abrupt end as the team and the veteran wide receiver mutually agreed to part ways. The decision understandably disappointed many Giants fans, but head coach John Harbaugh offered a candid explanation for why the team ultimately decided it was time to move on.

During an interaction with reporters, Harbaugh openly addressed Beckham's situation and explained that the Giants simply were not getting enough production from the veteran receiver.

“I had a great conversation with Odell, and it was tough, but we just weren't getting enough. It just wasn't working for us. I told him I wanted to be able to get more. I wanted him to be able to do more and get him on the field more,” Harbaugh said.

“Whatever reason, we weren't able to do it, put it on us. We weren't able to get it done. But at this point in time, that's kind of where we were, and we needed to move on.”

The decision was also influenced by the Giants' roster situation. New York needed to elevate receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios to the 53-man roster after exhausting its available practice squad elevations.

Before the release, Beckham appeared in all three games for the Giants to begin the 2026 season. However, his opportunities were extremely limited, as he played just 20 offensive snaps and received only one target, which resulted in zero receptions.

OBJ spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Giants. His return represented a reunion with the organization that selected him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he initially secured a spot on the Giants' 53-man roster coming out of training camp.

However, Beckham's NFL future has faced uncertainty on several occasions in recent years. With his second stint in New York now ending after only three games, another chapter of uncertainty begins for the veteran receiver as he looks for his next opportunity.
