The Bengals apparently need to dig themselves a 13-0 hole before they’re ready to start playing football this season.

The Bengals spotted the Ravens that lead in the first half of Week 7 before rallying for a 35-13 win and they found themselves down 13-0 in the first quarter against the Titans this Sunday. They didn’t wait until the second half to get their act together this week, but they had to struggle the whole way before finally nailing down a 43-36 overtime win.

Burrow and others fielded questions about their slow starts in their postgame press conferences, but Burrow was more interested in the final scores because he feels that scrapping out wins like their last two are a sign that the team has fixed part of what has ailed them the last few years.

“We found a way to win today. We’re 5-2,” Burrow said, via a transcript from the team. “We lose that game for the last three years. It’s hard to win. You want to be great snap in snap out, but it’s not the reality of it. All we can do is keep working hard and get better. You win from wins and losses and good plays and bad plays. That’s what the NFL and getting better is. We’ll continue to do that.”

Burrow threw three interceptions to go with five touchdown passes and his game-winning touchdown run on Sunday. He acknowledged the need to “be better and limit those critical mistakes,” but returned often to the theme of finding ways to win when they would have fallen apart in the past.
