The next time he “welcomes you into the broadcast booth” during a Monday night game, Joe Buck could be looking for backup.
As reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, “there has been tension” between long-time on-air partners Joe Buck and Troy Aikman.
It comes at a time when Buck has gotten a new five-year deal to remain with ESPN/ABC and Aikman has not.
Glasspiegel explains that, during Monday night’s game between the Bills and Rams at SoFi Stadium in L.A., Buck “broke the ice” on the situation, prompting an argument between the duo. The situation de-escalated, and there was no sign of any issue during the actual broadcast.
The situation suggests that ESPN/ABC will be looking (if they aren’t already) to replace Aikman after the season ends. The fact that Buck did his deal without Aikman’s deal being done implies that Buck has no qualms about making a change after a quarter of a century with the Hall of Fame quarterback.
