The New York Jets have not had a winning season since 2015, but they are looking to change that with a familiar face back at quarterback in Geno Smith. In Week 1, the Jets certainly handled their business, making the Tennessee Titans look small in a 23-10 victory on the road to start off the season 1-0 â combining with the New York Giants in a feat that saw both teams start the season with a victory for the first time since 2009.
The Jets are coming off a season in which they won just three games, which is quite horrendous considering that they only won five games the previous campaign. Suffice to say, every win matters for this moribund franchise that's looking to turn things around.
However, what the Jets weren't able to turn around was their interception-less streak. New York is coming off a season in which they failed to intercept a pass from their opponent in all 17 games. They surely looked to put an end to that woeful streak on Sunday; however, despite coming away with the win, they were not able to force an interception out of Titans QB Cam Ward.
Article Continues BelowThe good news is that forcing interceptions isn't the only way a defense can make its mark. The Jets' defense played well nonetheless even though their interception-less streak has now reached 18 games. They forced Ward to a 19-32 passing night for just a total of 140 yards. Moreover, they sacked him thrice and overall made life difficult for the Titans' offense.
Grabbing interceptions is always a positive for the defense, however, so the Jets would want to break their duck there as soon as possible. Perhaps they would be more fortunate in this regard in Week 2, when they come up against the Green Bay Packers.
Packers QB Jordan Love threw a pick on Sunday in their 39-22 loss to the Vikings, so it's not out of the realm of possibility at all for the Jets to end this drought come next Sunday.
