Pardon the pun, but there is a giant-sized question for the New York Giants amid quarterback Jaxson Dart's knee injury: What the heck is going on?

As of this writing, a clear timeline has not been provided for Dart, although there has been speculation that he sustained a season-ending setback. The second-year signal-caller did not look good when he left the game against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday.

Many feared that it was an MCL injury, but it was not, based on the initial evaluation. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, it was not an ACL injury either.

“A lot of season-ending injuries are the ACL. Ian Rapoport and I were both told yesterday that this is not an ACL (injury). But the MRI did tell a different story than the Giants were initially expecting. There is more damage than what the evaluations on site showed,” said Garafolo.

“Right now, sources are telling us that there are a few timelines on the table, none of them very good. One of them is season-ending for Jaxson Dart.”

There is a sense of cruel irony that for all the constant reminders for Dart to avoid a potential concussion, it is a knee injury that might completely derail his sophomore campaign.

“Everybody's going to come together and make a collective decision, and when you've got a young player, particularly at the quarterback position, a lot of times these decisions are made with the long-term interest of the player in mind. So those conversations are continuing today. We are expecting some clarity in the near future here,” added Garafolo.

Dart was expected to build on the momentum from his rookie stint, wherein he proved that he could be a foundational cornerstone for the Giants.

He entered this season brimming with self-belief. That, however, is definitely being challenged right now, as his situation looks awfully bleak.
