The New York Giants took a complete nosedive during Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season. New York lost QB Jaxson Dart for the season after he suffered an injury on Monday Night Football. Now the Giants will be forced to rely on backup Jameis Winston as their new starter for the rest of the season. He seems to be taking to his new role quite easily.
Winston was asked if his life will change at all now that he is the team's starting quarterback. Winston gave a great answer that highlighted his Super Bowl aspirations.
“How I plan my year in terms of by design it's football is my priority,” Winston said on Wednesday, per SNY Giants. “Every single day I write down what I would love and that's to be a Super Bowl winning starting NFL quarterback. So my schedule is always planned to execute that.”
Winston has never tasted any postseason success throughout his NFL career. He only made a brief playoff appearance during the 2020 season with the Saints. Winston did throw a 56-yard touchdown on a trick play, but he was the backup behind Drew Brees. The Saints lost that game 30-20 against Winston's former team, the Buccaneers.
Now the 32-year-old quarterback finally has another chance to complete for a Super Bowl as a starter. But it won't be an easy road to the playoffs.
New York suffered a handful of other important injuries in Week 2 beyond Dart. Malik Nabers briefly left with a shoulder injury and Brian Burns will miss time with an ankle injury. Left tackle Andrew Thomas also picked up a groin injury and was limit in practice on Wednesday.
The pressure will really be on the Giants to overcome adversity throughout the rest of the season. It will be fascinating to see if Winston can rise to the challenge.
Next up for the Giants is a home game against the Titans. That Week 3 matchup kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sept. 27 from MetLife Stadium.
