Months after securing a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy, for speed skating, Jutta Leerdam is now set to go on a career break. While popular for her relationship with Jake Paul, the Olympian is also widely known across the globe for her solo achievement of securing gold at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games.

In a recent video shared on her YouTube channel, the athlete announced her decision to go on a break from speed skating. “One thing is for sure, you will not see me skate this season,” Leerdam shared in the video. “I’m 27, life changes, feelings change, and I wouldn’t feel comfortable saying I’m fully retiring,” expressed the Dutch athlete.

The Dutch star won gold in the 1,000 meters in Milan earlier this year in Feb. 2026. Following her win, fans also spotted her partner, Jake Paul, break down in tears and become emotional. Leerdam has been supported by Paul since 2023. She also won silver in the 500 meters. In addition to securing the medals, Leerdam also set an Olympic record at the Games.

Into sports from a very young age, Leerdam also shared her “obsession” with skating in her latest YouTube vlog. “I’ve had an obsession with skating. I’ve always been more than a skater. I am so multifaceted.”

While not officially retired, Leerdam has left the door open for her return. She was recently spotted attending the US Open women's singles final with Paul between Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka.

Paul and Leerdam have been in a relationship for nearly three years, having gone official in Apr. 2023. They got engaged to each other last year in Mar. 2025, although they are yet to announce their marriage date.
