Tasmania 241 for 9 (McDermott 77, Jewell 50, Scott 4-35, Jackson 3-36) against New South Wales
New pace recruit Bryce Jackson has run through the Tasmania top order to mark his Sheffield Shield debut for New South Wales.
The 26-year-old moved from Western Australia for this season having been deemed a white-ball specialist due to numerous back injuries.
Jackson lost his contract despite being WA's leading wicket-taker in domestic one-dayers and also playing for Australia A last year in a Top End series against Sri Lanka A, with the return of Jhye Richardson and Lance Morris onto the state list from Cricket Australia's central list causing a squeeze on spots.
But he shone in his debut on Thursday in the Shield season-opening game in Sydney a Tasmania blew a strong start.
Jackson took 3 for 36 and fellow debutant Jake Scott snared 4 for 35 as Tasmania reached 241 for 9 stumps at Cricket Central after NSW won the toss.
Ben McDermott made a vital 77, and opener Caleb Jewell made 50.
After Jackson had Tasmania captain Jordan Silk caught behind for five - his maiden Shield wicket - Jewell and No.3 Tim Ward put on 93 for the second wicket.
But Jewell slashed at Scott and was caught by NSW captain Charlie Stobo in the gully.
That sparked a collapse of 4 for 5 that left the visitors on the brink at 108 for 5, with Teague Wyllie and Jake Doran both out for ducks. Jackson picked up two of them with Ward caught behind for 38 while Wyllie edged to Jack Edwards at second slip flashing off the back foot.
McDermott, batting at No.5, worked with the tailenders to steady the innings, but he was the last wicket to fall for the day when Stobo took a sharp chance at gully off Scott.
