Javonte Williams scored two touchdowns for the Dallas Cowboys in the season opener against the New York Giants, but had what was described as a moment of 'insanity' by Sunday Night Football commentator Cris Collinsworth.
With just under five and a half minutes remaining in the fourth, the Cowboys found themselves down by 14 points at MetLife Stadium.
On a quick pass from the 17-yard line, quarterback Dak Prescott flipped the ball to Williams, and the running back walked into the end zone untouched for a score.
But as he crossed the goal line, he held the ball out to Giants safety Tyler Nubin, and was called for taunting.
That move cost the Cowboys 15 yards on the extra point try, and from 48 yards, kicker Brandon Aubrey sent his effort wide of the posts.
The miss meant Dallas were left trailing 28-20, and NBC's SNF color commentator Collinsworth suggested Williams cost his team with a silly penalty.

"You'll see the taunt at the end, it's completely unnecessary, everybody knows the rules," he said, watching the replay.
"Your team's desperate, trying to get back in it, and you're giving away yards."
As Aubrey missed his kick, Collinsworth added: It's just⦠it's just insanity."
Play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico was also left baffled, and echoed his colleague's thoughts.
"You don't want to slow down, I know it's only a second or so, but get into the end zone, you need every second you can get⦠completely unnecessary, and it cost his team."
As it turned out, the penalty was inconsequential, as the Giants held onto the ball for the rest of the game to close out a big win.
But the feeling of being down by eight points, and needing a successful two-point conversion instead of a PAT to tie things up, probably didn't help the mentality of New York's defense.
Postgame, Williams appeared to take immediate accountability for his actions.
"ItâÂÂs us versus us," he said, reacting to the loss.
"Self-inflicted wounds, penalties, things like that. ThatâÂÂs what cost us the game."
Fans share early-season verdict on Cris Collinsworth
While Williams frustrated Cowboys fans with his on-field taunting penalty, Collinsworth appeared to draw ire from viewers with his wider call during the game. That is nothing new, as many have made their feelings clear in previous seasons.
Sunday marked his second appearance in the booth in Week 1, as he also called the season-opening game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots a few days ago.
Fans, it seems, are already growing tired of Collinsworth's commentary, and some took to social media to share their early-season verdicts.
One moment that particularly confused viewers saw the NBC color commentator reference the 25th anniversary of 9/11 as he described the 'wild' pace of the first-half action.
"Cris Collinsworth implying that a penalty flag was caused by 9/11 is elevating the bar for insane football commentary," one fan wrote on X.
"Where was he going with this? Did he have more reasons and forget them or did he genuinely just believe that the 'raw emotion' was because of the anniversary of 9/11. Pure unintentional comedy," another said.

"IâÂÂm crying why did he say that?" a third asked.
Others, meanwhile, shared frustration with Collinsworth's early slip about Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.
"Somehow Cris Collinsworth has gotten worse. Yelling about how far Dart was out of bounds before the hit. Dart was out by ONE step,â one fan wrote.
"Come on Cris," another said.
A third raged: "On behalf of all NFL football fans everywhere, let me just say⦠'Cris Collinsworth, please SHUT THE F*** UP!!!'"
The NFL season has only just kicked off, but fans are already making their feelings clear about one of the league's most recognizable voices.
Collinsworth himself, meanwhile, couldn't believe the 'insanity' he saw from Williams on Sunday night.
