The San Francisco 49ers have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2026 NFL season. San Fran is 2-0 to star the year and is already looking like a contender in the NFC. The 49ers may get one of their veteran offensive players back from injury ahead of Sunday's game.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport gave an update on the health of Mike Evans ahead of Week 3.

“[Evans] is dealing with a hip injury after dealing with a quad injury in training camp. This is another one that does not seem to be major,” Rapoport said on Thursday via Good Morning Football. “Didn't practice yesterday but good chance he practices this week and goes.”

San Francisco planned to manage Evans' hip injury throughout this week of practice. That plan clearly includes a slow ramp-up period for the veteran receiver.

The 49ers would be thrilled if Evans could return to the field in Week 3. San Fran is once again incredibly thin at the wide receiver position just a few weeks into the regular season.

Deebo Samuel is currently the only starting wide receiver who is completely healthy. Jacob Cowing, Jordan Watkins, and KhaDarel Hodge are also available as depth pieces. As a result, the 49ers signed veteran Brandin Cooks to their practice squad to create some more depth.

Meanwhile, Demarcus Robinson is set to miss multiple weeks with a high-ankle sprain. That is on top of already losing Christian Kirk, De'Zhaun Stribling, and Ricky Pearsall to injured reserve.

Evans has been a capable receiver when available this season. He has nine receptions for 103 receiving yards and a touchdown through just two games. That role could increase given the team's shallow depth at the position.

49ers fans should keep an eye out for the official injury report on Friday for more clues on Evans' status. But at this point, it looks like Evans could play this weekend.

Next up for the 49ers is a home game against the Cardinals. This NFC West matchup kicks off at 4:05 p.m. on Sept. 27 from Levi's Stadium.
