The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-5 to begin the season after suffering a 23-17 Week 5 loss to the Denver Broncos. It was another disaster day for quarterback Justin Herbert, who threw an interception late in the fourth quarter to seal his team's fate. With five games under his belt in Mike McDaniel's offensive scheme, statistics may indicate that Herbert is playing as the worst starting QB in the NFL.
With Week 5 nearing an end, the 28-year-old signal caller is currently the only quarterback in the league who has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns this season (in the first five games). He has five touchdown passes so far this year while leading the league with seven interceptions.
Additionally, Herbert has one of the worst QB ratings amongst starting quarterbacks to begin the 2026-27 campaign. He owns a 70.2 QB rating, with only Miami Dolphins signal-caller Malik Willis owning a worse rating of 68.4 (excluding backups). So, in the grand scheme of things, the Chargers' former first-round pick may not be the worst quarterback in the league, but he is certainly at the bottom.

While the Chargers look like a slowly sinking ship, the club will do what it can to finally get back in the win column in Week 6. However, that may be a tall task, as L.A. is scheduled to take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.
