With the Milwaukee Brewers already clinching a playoff berth for the 2026 season, there is no denying how impeccably the team has performed, especially with the performance of ace pitcher Jacob Misiorowski. As Misiorowski is achieving MLB history with the Brewers with his outings and the speed of his pitches, he appears to be a lock for the NL Cy Young Award, with this MLB insider echoing the same sentiments, but maybe for the reason one might not think about.

While of course Misiorowski's 1.95 ERA and 236 strikeouts are phenomenal, the one statistic that “jumped out” at league insider Ken Rosenthal was his opponent's OPS. The one player that people feel should be considered a candidate is Atlanta Braves star Chris Sale, and while it's valid thinking, Misiorowski's OPS is .476, which is “almost 100 points better” than Sale's.

“NL Cy, that's the Miz, and here's a stat that jumped out at me. Chris Sale's had a great year, right? And you would say Chris Sale is certainly a viable contender for the National League Cy Young Award,” Rosenthal said. “The Miz's opponents' OPS, what opponents are doing against him, is .476. That's microscopic. That's his opponent's OPS. It's almost 100 points better than Chris Sale's. That's incredible, and it just shows the gap, as well as the strikeouts and all of that. But the Miz has had a magnificent season. He will be the NL Cy.”

At any rate, Misiorowski's season has been legendary, which will likely be strengthened with an NL Cy Young Award to his name, as he also looks to lead Milwaukee to new heights.
