The New York Mets could not have had a worse 2026 season if they tried. A combination of injury woes and major underperformance from key players have made it so that they were out of playoff contention as early as April. With the Mets desperate to get their season back on track, manager Carlos Mendoza got the boot — thrusting Andy Green into interim managerial duties.

While having Green as the interim manager since the 26th of June did not save the Mets, having him around seems like a positive for this team. After all, since he became the head of the locker room, the Mets have gone 35-35. While that is not a very good record per se, it's much better than what New York showed in the early goings of this season.

For SNY Mets insider Chelsea Janes, she believes that the Mets would do well to promote Green and make him the full-time manager due to his top-notch communication skills.

“Just my opinion, but I think Andy Green is as good a communicator for this organization as they’ll be able to find. Hard to imagine an outside candidate handling the inevitable and endless Mets ups and downs better,” Janes wrote on her X account.

Green has indeed been handling the pressure cooker in New York as well as one could. He understood where Mets fans were coming from when they cheered Pete Alonso when he hit the game-tying home run on Tuesday, all while knowing where the likes of Sean Manaea, who found the situation to be a bit “crazy”, were coming from.

Of course, being a manager in the big leagues is a results-driven business. The Mets will be expanding their managerial search come offseason time, to exhaust all options and find the best fit possible, and it doesn't seem as though Green will be in the running for the full-time job.

But in a caretaker role, Green has certainly impressed, which might end up earning him an even bigger promotion straight to an executive role.
