Initial hope is that Caleb Williams has a Grade 1 hamstring strain

It looked bad. It ultimately could be much better than the Bears could have hoped for.

Quarterback Caleb Williams will have an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his hamstring injury. There’s currently optimism that it’s not serious.

The hope, we’re told, is that it will be diagnosed as a Grade 1 injury. That’s the lowest level, with minimal tearing of the muscle fibers.

Ultimately, the MRI will show the extent of the injury. And even if it’s only a Grade 1 strain, it’s possible he won’t be ready to go in eight days, when the Bears host the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

If Williams can’t go, it will be Tyson Bagent. Who performed well in limited duty on Sunday, and in whom the Bears have a high degree of confidence.

Bagent started four games as a rookie in 2023, winning two of them. Last year, the new coaching staff led by Ben Johnson opted to sign Bagent to a two-year, $10 million extension.
