The Minnesota Vikings earned a 39-22 win over the Green Bay Packers to begin their season on Sunday. The win was especially impressive considering the fact that starting quarterback Kyler Murray suffered an injury and was placed in concussion protocol early in the first quarter. It seemed as if it could end up being a lost game for Minnesota after Murray's injury, but backup QB Carson Wentz stepped up and recorded three touchdowns while going 12-19 through the air.

Is there a chance that Wentz could take over QB1 duties moving forward? While he did perform well, NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes Murray is still the Vikings starting quarterback.

“I'd be surprised if Carson took the reins and ran with it. I'd be surprised if he was their starting quarterback,” Rapoport said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “Kyler is gonna come back and I would expect it to be him… We really saw why Kevin O'Connell trusts Carson Wentz like this. He's 34, he's been through it, he's seen everything. The ability to go in there with minimal reps and just be really good… That was impressive, this is why he's the backup.”

Rapoport still expects Murray to be the starter while JJ McCarthy will remain in the third QB role for now. Wentz, meanwhile, has become a trusted backup quarterback option for the Vikings. Minnesota probably would not have won Sunday's game without Wentz's strong performance.

It remains to be seen which QB will start the Vikings' Week 2 game on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
