The Pittsburgh Steelers delivered their most complete performance of the season thus far in a 30-27 win over the Cincinnati Bengals after entering Week 3 having scored just 16 total points across their first two games. Pittsburgh finished with 411 total yards, nearly doubling its offensive output from the opening two weeks combined while scoring 30 points and recording its first opening-quarter touchdown barrage in 69 games.

And well, head coach Mike McCarthy was quick to point out the improvement during his post-game conference, per a post on X by Jack Hillgrove.

“Obviously production I think, anytime you prevent two games, self-scout is most important. From my perspective even in game planning, you know third down was an emphasis, so I think every time you put more time and energy, and the execution improves, it’s good for the players’ pages,” he said.

“So I think it really started with the third-down production. You know, frankly when we started the first play of the game, I thought Pat, David really started to check down and Pat making a big block. I haven’t seen any statistics but I know who plays is going to be a big part of this game. I guess we were much better today on offense.”

The Steelers scored 14 first-quarter points, surpassing the offensive scoring output from either of their first two games and snapping a streak of 69 consecutive games without scoring more than seven points in the opening quarter. Aaron Rodgers led the turnaround with a vintage outing, completing 19 of 34 passes for 292 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, after throwing just one touchdown pass through the first two weeks.

Pittsburgh struck quickly with a 38-yard touchdown from Rodgers to Roman Wilson and later added a 23-yard touchdown to Ben Skowronek. The offensive resurgence was led by Jaylen Warren, who amassed 127 rushing yards and 49 receiving yards for 176 yards from scrimmage, averaging 7.5 yards per carry and generating 4.35 yards after contact per rush.

The victory moved Pittsburgh to 2-1, tied atop the AFC North with Cincinnati, and provided the first tangible evidence that the offense displayed during training camp could translate into regular-season production.
