The Milwaukee Brewers are just two wins away from reaching the World Series. While there is plenty of baseball still left to play in the National League Championship Series, some writers are already thinking about what it would mean to see the team in the Fall Classic.

That is because a World Series matchup that would include the Brewers would be something quite unique.

“If Milwaukee wins the NL pennant, the combined payrolls of the two World Series teams would be the lowest since the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers in 2011,” ESPN's Jeff Passan reported.

The Brewers or the Los Angeles Dodgers will go to the World Series from the National League. They would end up playing either the Tampa Bay Rays or Cleveland Guardians. The Brewers, Guardians and Rays are all on the lower end of MLB teams in terms of the size of their payrolls.

“Meanwhile, of the four teams remaining in the postseason, one plays in the game's smallest market, another is carrying the game's lowest cash payroll, and a third is running out the 26th-highest payroll of the league's 30 teams,” Passan added.

The fourth team is of course the Dodgers, who have spent money at a rapid pace over the past three years. Milwaukee currently leads L.A. in the NLCS, 2-0, heading into Wednesday night.

Spending money certainly hasn't hurt the Dodgers. Los Angeles has won the last two World Series titles, over the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays respectively.

Despite having one of the lower payrolls in baseball, Milwaukee has consistently been one of the best teams in the game in recent years. The Brewers won the National League Central again in 2026, winning 103 games during the regular season.

Game 3 of the NLCS is Wednesday in Los Angeles.
