Boca Raton, FL – With Giannis Antetokounmpo turning the page in his career to the Miami Heat after 13 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, there's no doubt that his return game will be circled on the calendar of a plethora of fans. As Antetokounmpo joins the Heat after a long stint with the Bucks, the star gave honest insight into what his return to Milwaukee will be like for him.

Though the Heat face the Bucks on Nov. 18, that will be in Miami, as Jan. 28 will be the first time the two face off in Milwaukee with Antetokounmpo on the opposing team. Speaking after the second day of training camp at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Antetokounmpo candidly mentioned that he told his wife that he'd treat it like another game, but she saw right through it.

Antetokounmpo admitted that it will be “emotional” and “difficult,” but he's ready to “put on a show” and help the Heat win.

“It’s crazy, my wife mentioned that a couple days ago before media day,” Antetokounmpo said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, it's just another game for me, I get paid to play the game, I get paid to get better and be ready.’ But she's like, ‘Okay, that's what you always say. You go and try to brush it off like another game, but you're gonna be emotional…Deep down, I know it's gonna be an emotional game for you.'”

“I think going back in a different uniform and going through the hallway and see the familiar faces, for sure it's gonna be difficult,” Antetokounmpo continued. “But at the end of the day, we are big boys; we wear big pants, we make decisions. I mean, I live by our decisions, and I'm a guy that lives with no regrets, and when I get there, I'm gonna try to put on a show and try to get a win for my team.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo on what he wants to learn from the Heat

Spending 13 seasons with the Bucks, Antetokounmpo solidified himself as a top player in franchise history, bringing the franchise a championship in 2021 after 50 years, winning back-to-back Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, and much more. Now starting a new chapter in his NBA career with the Heat, he spoke on how “there's a lot of things” he needs to learn about the organization.

“Obviously, different organizations, different principles,” Antetokounmpo said. “They play totally different than I would have been the last 13 years; they guard differently. So I just try to learn. I've been like that my whole career. I try to show as much as I can and as much knowledge as I can. Can always learn, not just from Coach Spo [Erik Spoelstra], from the players, from the coaching staff, from everybody around the team.”

“Can always learn something new, and they can help you navigate this whole process,” Antetokounmpo continued. “But yeah, I'll be honest with you. I've been around the team for like two, three weeks now, and I've learned so many different…Like, I viewed the game one way; now I'm playing under the Heta organization. It's kind of like making me view the game in a different way. So I'm involved.”

Antetokounmpo looks to get back to the level of playing a majority of a season, after playing in 36 games last season and averaging at least 30 points and 11 rebounds, as he did before the final year in Milwaukee. At any rate, the superstar will use the rest of training camp at FAU to get acclimated to his new team.
