The New York Giants have signed quarterback Jake Haener from their practice squad to their 53-man roster ahead of Sunday's Week 3 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. The 27-year-old will back up Jameis Winston after Jaxson Dart was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending knee injury.
Haener, who joined New York midway through training camp, fills the roster opening created by Dart's move to injured reserve. He was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Fresno State product has appeared in eight NFL games, all during the 2024 season, including one start. He completed 18 of 39 passes for 226 yards, one touchdown and one interception during that action.
Haener also played in two preseason games for the Giants in August. Across those appearances, he completed 10 of 11 attempts for 116 yards and one touchdown.
New York also elevated wide receiver and return specialist Braxton Berrios and linebacker Malik Harrison from the practice squad for Sunday's game. Both elevations mark their third and final elevation. Berrios has handled kickoff and punt returns and can serve as an emergency quarterback, while both players have primarily contributed on special teams.
The Giants are continuing to explore options for another quarterback through free agency, via a trade or from another team's practice squad, with Winston's performance against the Titans likely to influence the team's approach.
