The New York Giants are still reeling from the news that starting quarterback Jaxson Dart will miss the remainder of the season as he undergoes surgery following an injury against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. The Giants now turn to Jameis Winston to try to deliver the ball to some of their talented wide receivers, headlined by Malik Nabers.
The Giants also employ former franchise icon Odell Beckham Jr., although the former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ has yet to record a catch so far this season.
Recently, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy spoke on OBJ's lack of usage so far this season.
“Routes, everything, he does a lot of things well. We're trying to probably slowly package him in some things offensively, so it's not that he's just a backup. There are some times when, whatever it is personnel-wise, we have it on the game plan, we just didn't get to it, or you've got to be ready. You're one injury away from being in all the time. He knows that. He understands that,” said Nagy, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News on X, formerly Twitter.
Beckham Jr. doesn't have nearly the same burst or athleticism that he did during his prime days with the Giants, when he became one of the biggest-name players in the NFL.
Still, he remains a solid veteran presence for the franchise, and as Nagy noted, he could be called upon to play a bigger role if injuries necessitate it, as has already been the case for Jameis Winston at quarterback.
The Giants will next hit the field on Monday afternoon at home vs the Tennessee Titans.
