Coach John Harbaugh's New York Giants dug themselves a hole against the New Orleans Saints in the third quarter, giving up 17 points and falling behind on a day when running back Cam Skattebo was benched. Starting QB Jameis Winston was also benched in favor of JJ McCarthy which drew a direct Harbaugh take after the Giants' 34-17 loss.

When the smoke cleared, the Giants were 3-2-1 on the season and had a fresh quarterback controversy on their hands, which Winston addressed.

“That's him, that's a decision that he'll have to make. What I would love is to just put myself in a better position to execute, and that just starts with me, things I can control,” Winston said when asked about his potential to be the starter again in Week 7.

The Giants will play a road game at the Houston Texans on October 25, giving Harbaugh's team a chance at redemption. Skattebo has had fumble issues, but fans chanted his name during the Saints loss, hoping for a return. McCarthy also endeared himself to fans with a 243 yards in just over 11 minutes performance that recalled his glory days at the University of Michigan, which made him a first-round pick.

Winston had two interceptions and 152 yards on 26 passing attempts and was sacked four times against an average team at best. The Giants now have a tough decision on their hands between the veteran Winston and the third-year pro McCarthy, who missed his 2024 rookie season due to injury. Both have become fan favorites during their time in New York. It is a badge of honor Winston doesn't take lightly, as evidenced by his take after the game.
