The New York Giants recently announced that JJ McCarthy would be replacing Jameis Winston as the team's starting quarterback for this week's game against the Houston Texans. The news comes after McCarthy took over for Winston down the stretch of last week's game vs the New Orleans Saints and nearly led the team on a miraculous comeback.

Now, McCarthy has spoken about his relationship with Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, whose injury opened the door for Winston to become the starter in the first place.

“I talked to him today, just normal conversation. We're both just rooting for each other. And like I told him, I'm doing the same thing that you want, is help win the football games for this organization and do everything we can and be the best versions of ourselves every day to help the collective,” he said, per Giants.com.

McCarthy also spoke on how Dart is helping him out with the X's and O's ahead of his first start in New York.

“It's going to be great because he is such a smart player and obviously very well-rounded in this offense. It's going to be awesome to just ask him really anything and pick his brain about anything,” he said.

McCarthy was acquired by the Giants from the Minnesota Vikings earlier this season shortly after Dart's injury, giving New York an insurance policy in case Winston's struggles continued, which they certainly did.

McCarthy overcame an early interception to put up some elite production against the Saints down the stretch on Sunday, nearly pulling off a comeback for the ages in that one.

Now, he'll be matched up against a Texans defense that was arguably the best in the league last year and has now started to round back into form this year.
