The New York Giants are cruelly being denied the chance to find out if Jaxson Dart is their unquestioned franchise quarterback during the remainder of the 2026 season, as a crushing knee injury will push the promising talent's development back another year. But the show must go on. Big Blue has to maximize Jameis Winston's effectiveness under center, and that requires a healthy Malik Nabers and Andrew Thomas. The former is seemingly in good standing, but the latter is trending in the wrong direction.
After logging a limited practice session on Wednesday, Thomas did not participate on Thursday, per ESPN NFL Nation's Jordan Raanan. The veteran left tackle is among the best at his position when healthy, but he played in only 29 games in the previous three seasons combined. He suffered a groin injury in Monday's 28-6 loss versus the Los Angeles Rams. Thankfully, Nabers was a full participant and is now on track to play in Sunday's home game versus the Tennessee Titans.
The star wide receiver temporarily exited to the sidelines with a shoulder issue in LA, so this update is greatly encouraging. Although Malik Nabers and Jameis Winston were unable to get on the same page in Week 2, this duo could be quite dangerous after additional preparation. Andrew Thomas' potential absence could cause serious problems, however.
The 2022 Second-Team All-Pro is the most important component of a Giants offensive line that is clearly still trying to find a consistent form. Losing such a stabilizing presence would force the not-so-mobile Winston to make quick decisions in the pocket, and that is not his strength. Though, if Thomas makes progress on Friday and does suit up against the Titans, then this offense could operate rather competently.
It looks like Giants fans will at least get to see the dynamic Nabers take the field on Sunday afternoon. Hey, after the Jaxson Dart news, they will take any morsel of positivity they can get.
