George Lucas took in the Golden State Valkyries’ biggest game of the season from the stands Friday night and witnessed the team eliminate the Dallas Wings in front of a sold-out Chase Center.
The legendary filmmaker and creator of “Star Wars” was among the spectators at Ballhalla as the Valkyries rallied from a 16-point deficit to beat Dallas 77-73 in Game 3 of their first-round WNBA playoff series.
Lucas’ presence did not go unnoticed by Gabby Williams. After helping Golden State secure its first playoff series victory, Williams spotted him during her postgame interview with ESPN.
“What up, George Lucas?” Williams said with a laugh. “That’s pretty cool.”

The moment came after Williams delivered the biggest performance of the night for Golden State. She finished with 19 points and scored the Valkyries’ final eight points, including a 17-foot jumper with 1:17 remaining that gave Golden State the lead for good. Williams then converted four free throws in the final 9.6 seconds to finish off the victory.
“There’s some magic in this building, I swear there is,” Williams told ESPN afterward.
The Chase Center crowd has become a major part of the Valkyries’ home identity. Golden State has sold out 46 consecutive games, and Williams credited the atmosphere with helping the team through its late push.
“I loved it,” Williams said of the crowd. “Because it forced us to talk louder and communicate more. When you’re screaming more, then your energy’s up, and you’re into it. So, yeah, we definitely owe Ballhalla a big thank you for tonight.”
The victory also gave Williams a chance to respond after her 36-point effort in Game 2 was overshadowed by Dallas’ overtime win. Tiffany Hayes added 18 points Friday, while Veronica Burton had 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
