As usual, Gabby Williams showed up when it mattered the most. She put the Golden State Valkyries on her back in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals, carrying them past the Atlanta Dream to capture their first title in just their second year in the league.

Williams scored 28 of her 30 points in the second half in Game 7 against the Dream and was named Finals MVP, a fitting end to her first season with the Valkyries. Clearly, she made the right decision to sign with Golden State in the offseason.

Sophie Cunningham of the Indiana Fever heaped praise on Williams, who averaged 19.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.6 steals in the WNBA Finals.

“I just want to give her a huge shoutout because she is a phenomenal player, and I think that was on display the whole season, but specifically in this last game. It's deserved,” said Cunningham on her podcast.

“But I think something that really sticks out to me as someone who's played against her, someone who's been in the league that pretty much the same amount of time as she is, is that everyone loves her as a teammate. She leads with such grace and humility. She lets her game do the talking. She keeps the main thing the main thing.”

The 30-year-old Williams has personified the Valkyries' selfless culture and everybody-eats mentality. She also has a fun-loving personality off the court, which helps solidify the team's bond.

Cunningham described Williams as a “great leader,” stressing that the two-time All-Star and three-time All-Defense is a role model.

“For someone with such humility toward herself, who leads her team with such passion and cares about them more than herself, I just think it's a phenomenal example for a lot of people to aspire to be like,” added Cunningham.

Williams revealed that she received a text from Michael Jordan after the Valkyries won their historic title.
