On Sunday, it was announced that former New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi had passed away, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network on X, formerly Twitter. He was 84 years old.

“Ernie helped shape the course of New York Giants history through his vision, leadership and unwavering belief in building a championship organization. Beyond his accomplishments as a football executive, he was a trusted advisor and dear friend. His legacy will forever be part of the Giants, and he will be greatly missed,” said Giants President John Mara, per a statement on the team's official website.

Accorsi became the team's general manager in 1998 and made several big moves, including the trade of Philip Rivers and draft compensation that brought Eli Manning to New York, resulting in two Super Bowls over the coming years.

He drafted several star players to New York during his tenure, including Justin Tuck, and was also responsible for hiring legendary head coach Tom Coughlin.

Accorsi retired in 2006, having also spent time with the then-Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns prior to his tenure with the Giants.

“Ernie Accorsi was one of the most respected football minds in NFL history and a dear friend whose wisdom and perspective I valued tremendously. Throughout his remarkable career, he shaped championship-caliber clubs and earned the admiration of everyone who worked with him,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement.

The Giants will surely honor Accorsi at their next home game, which is slated for September 27 against the Tennessee Titans.
