Week 1 delivered everything fantasy football managers could have wanted from the wide receiver position. We saw explosive performances, unexpected breakouts, and yes, a few frustrating duds. Now, the Week 2 fantasy football wide receiver rankings are beginning to take shape. Puka Nacua remains a high-priority WR1. Amon-Ra St. Brown enters Week 2 after reminding everyone just how dominant he can be. Ja'Marr Chase is one fantasy managers will be watching after a remarkably quiet opener. Beyond the established stars, there are several intriguing sleeper options. Add several notable injuries to the equation, and Week 2 could produce some major movement across fantasy lineups.
Week 2 Top Fantasy Football Picks
Puka Nacua, LAR (vs. NYG)

Nacua's final numbers were respectable. He caught five of nine targets for 74 yards in the Rams' 27-7 loss to San Francisco on Thursday. Nacua was the only Los Angeles receiver to surpass 26 receiving yards. A matchup with the Giants presents an opportunity for Nacua to bounce back. His nine targets in Week 1 demonstrate that the volume is already there. A more competitive offensive environment should create additional opportunities. He enters Week 2 as a strong WR1.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, DET (@ BUF)
St. Brown was one of the biggest winners of the opening week. He hauled in 10 of 14 targets for 67 yards and two touchdowns. He led the Lions in targets and caught both of quarterback Jared Goff's touchdown passes. The matchup gets considerably more challenging against Buffalo. Still, his role in Detroit's offense is too significant to ignore. 14 targets in the opener demonstrate how frequently Goff is willing to look his way. His combination of target volume, red-zone usage, and route consistency makes him one of the safest starts on the Week 2 slate.
Ja'Marr Chase, CIN (@ HOU)
Chase endured one of the most disappointing fantasy football performances of opening week. he caught just two of four targets for 12 yards in Cincinnati's 33-27 victory over Tampa Bay. The matchup against Houston is not necessarily an obvious bounce-back spot. That said, one quiet game should not fundamentally alter Chase's fantasy ranking. His talent and established role make him too dangerous to bench in most formats. The Texans are tough, but Chase remains a must-start WR1 based on his enormous weekly ceiling.
Week 2 Fantasy Football Sleepers
Christian Watson, GB (@ NYJ)

Watson caught six of eight targets for 147 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to Minnesota. His first score came on an explosive 81-yard catch-and-run. Jordan Love found him in the end zone again later in the contest. Watson now gets a matchup against the Jets and enters the week with legitimate WR2 upside. His Week 1 explosion demonstrated that he can turn relatively limited opportunities into massive production. The eight targets suggest he can contribute consistently rather than relying solely on splash plays.
Mike Evans, SF (vs. MIA)
Evans made an immediate impact in San Francisco's blowout victory over the Rams. He caught six of seven targets for 49 yards and a touchdown. Evans is beginning to look like a potential draft-day steal if his early momentum continues. His outlook becomes even more attractive if De'Zhaun Stribling's ankle injury keeps him sidelined for an extended period. Evans has the profile of an upside WR2 heading into Week 2.
Emeka Egbuka, TB (vs. CLE)
Egbuka caught five of six targets for 63 yards in Tampa Bay's loss to Cincinnati. After entering the contest fully healthy, he got off to an encouraging start and was active during the first half. The major frustration came after halftime, when he was not targeted despite Tampa Bay trailing. That second-half disappearance should not erase the positives from his opening performance. A matchup with Cleveland gives him another chance to establish himself as a consistent part of the offense. He remains a compelling WR2 option.
Article Continues BelowInjury and late-week notes
Several receiver injuries could have a major impact on Week 2 lineups, with Zay Flowers, Ja'Kobi Lane, Ladd McConkey, Brian Thomas Jr, Alec Pierce, Omar Cooper Jr, and Jalen McMillan all carrying injury designations.
Flowers is arguably the most important name to monitor. The Ravens receiver is considered day-to-day after exiting Baltimore's Week 1 win over Indianapolis. His practice participation throughout the week will be crucial in determining whether he can suit up in Week 2.
Lane, meanwhile, is expected to miss several weeks after suffering a fractured wrist. His absence could create additional opportunities for Rashod Bateman. He played 78 snaps, the most among Baltimore receivers, in the opener.
McConkey's status is similarly important. The Chargers wideout left after taking a significant hit during the second half of Los Angeles' loss to Arizona. Before exiting, McConkey had already produced five catches for 82 yards and a touchdown. His practice participation should provide more clarity.

Bottom Line
The biggest lesson from Week 1 is that fantasy football managers should separate opportunity from results. Chase's 12-yard outing is concerning on the surface. Still, four targets in one game do not erase his elite talent or potential workload. Conversely, Watson's monster performance deserves attention because his target volume and explosive ability give him a path to repeat production.
The safest approach entering Week 2 is to trust proven volume. St. Brown is the clearest example. Nacua and Chase remain high-end talents. Meanwhile, Watson, Evans and Egbuka offer the kind of upside that can swing a fantasy matchup.
