The fantasy football running back landscape continues to evolve entering Week 5 of the 2026 NFL season. Some established stars have maintained their elite status while several emerging options are forcing their way into the conversation. Of course, each comes with a different level of risk. Injuries could also have a major impact on Week 5 lineups, with several backs facing uncertain statuses.
Week 5 Top Fantasy Football Picks
Jahmyr Gibbs, DET (@ ARI)

Jahmyr Gibbs didn't have his most productive outing of the season in Week 4. However, there is little reason to move him out of the elite tier. Gibbs rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries while adding 31 yards on four receptions in Detroit's 32-26 loss to Carolina. His 77 total yards and 3.1 yards per carry and four receptions were season lows.
Even so, Gibbs found the end zone for the seventh time through four games. That touchdown consistency is a major reason why fantasy managers should remain confident. The Lions travel to Arizona in Week 5. Gibbs remains an elite dual-threat option with the workload and explosiveness necessary to produce a major fantasy performance.
Bijan Robinson, ATL (vs. BAL)
Bijan Robinson led Atlanta in Week 4 with 145 rushing yards while averaging a remarkable 7.6 yards per carry. He also scored twice. His passing-game production was less impressive, but that was largely a product of game script. Atlanta built a substantial lead and didn't need to rely heavily on Robinson as a receiver.
Robinson has been stellar through the first four weeks. His combination of rushing efficiency, receiving ability, and touchdown upside makes him one of the safest high-ceiling options at the position. He now faces Baltimore in Week 5 and should remain firmly entrenched as an RB1.
Derrick Henry, BAL (@ ATL)
Derrick Henry continues to deliver exactly what fantasy football managers want from an elite running back: volume and touchdowns. Henry rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in Baltimore's win over Tennessee. He also caught both of his targets for six yards. The rushing volume remains particularly encouraging. Twenty-three carries gives Henry a strong opportunity to produce even when his efficiency isn't spectacular.
He'll face Atlanta in Week 5 and should once again be viewed as a key RB1.
Week 5 Fantasy Football Sleepers
Cam Skattebo, NYG (@ WAS)
Cam Skattebo's Week 4 box score doesn't tell the entire story of his fantasy football outlook. Skattebo rushed 18 times for 58 yards and caught one pass for eight yards in New York's 36-24 win over Arizona. That's obviously disappointing, but the workload remains encouraging.
Skattebo continues to receive enough touches to remain fantasy relevant. Week 5 provides an opportunity to bounce back against Washington. If the Giants give him another substantial workload, a more efficient outing could quickly push him back toward RB2 territory.
Braelon Allen, NYJ (vs. CLE)
Braelon Allen didn't do much with his opportunities in Week 4, but his role remains extremely valuable. Allen carried 14 times for 59 yards and caught both of his targets for eight yards in New York's 23-12 loss to Chicago. However, Allen received all of the Jets' backfield touches, making his workload difficult to ignore.
With Breece Hall dealing with a quad injury and having missed Week 4, Allen should again operate as New York's lead back against Cleveland. If Hall remains sidelined, Allen's volume gives him a legitimate RB2 path.
Kyle Monangai, CHI (@ GB)
Kyle Monangai could be one of the most important backfield situations to monitor this week. Monangai erupted for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries in Chicago's 23-12 victory over the Jets. He also caught his only target for four yards, dominating the backfield workload.
D'Andre Swift lost a costly fumble and saw his playing time reduced afterward. That creates questions about whether Chicago will move toward a more balanced split. Monangai remains on the flex radar against Green Bay. That said, fantasy managers need to monitor his injury status. Bears coach Ben Johnson said Monangai is day-to-day with a thumb injury.
Week 5 Injury Situation
Saquon Barkley is week-to-week with a hamstring injury. Tank Bigsby is out with a core injury and is heading to injured reserve. Jeremiyah Love is dealing with an ankle injury. Hall remains uncertain with his quad issue. Chris Brooks is dealing with an ankle injury after leaving Week 4 early, while Rico Dowdle has a toe injury but has a good chance to return in Week 5. Rachaad White is also dealing with a shoulder issue.
These situations could significantly alter workloads before kickoff.

Week 5 Outlook

Gibbs, Robinson, and Henry remain the safest elite options. Skattebo and Allen offer workload-driven upside. Monangai is the wild card, particularly if Chicago increases his role following his Week 4 breakout.
Fantasy football managers should monitor the injury reports closely, especially with several backfields facing uncertainty. At this point in the season, opportunity remains king, and Week 5 could reveal which running backs are ready to seize it.
