The Atlanta Falcons quarterback situation is a mess. Michael Penix Jr. is probably the man that the team wants under center, but he has yet to fully return from a torn ACL. Even before Penix suffered what was one of many serious lower body injuries throughout his career, the Washington product's on-field play had underwhelmed during his first two seasons.

Tua Tagovailoa was supposed start in Penix's place, but he went down with an injury just days before Week 1, which forced Cooper Rush into action. Rush predictably struggled during each of his first two starts, so Jack Strand entered the game against the Carolina Panthers. He wasn't any better, though.

Rush went 10/17 for 86 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions before his benching. Strand was 8/15 for 59 yards and had an interception once coming in in relief. The struggles make it to where Tagovailoa or Penix would almost certainly start come next week if health allows.

However, Robert Griffin III isn't happy that a team like the Falcons would rather see young QBs struggle than employ veterans with former superstar status, not only for what they can provide on the field, but for what they bring to the locker room, too.

“When Cooper Rush and Jack Strand are stinking it up in Atlanta it makes zero sense that QBs like Cam Newton, Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Tannehill, and myself aren't the veteran presence in the room to stabilize teams when their QB goes down,” Griffin tweeted. “These guys were playing for Carolina today.”

Griffin was a second-round pick in 2012. He earned a Pro Bowl nod during his first season before injuries derailed his career. Even so, the Baylor product and former Heisman winner was able to created a relatively lengthy career for himself that lasted until 2020. While Griffin's logic makes some sense, a return to football after such a long time off would be pretty surprising. The same goes for Newton, Garoppolo, and Tannehill, all of whom have been out of the league for a while, despite finding success during their days as starters.
