The Atlanta Falcons desperately need to get their first win of the season. Atlanta will be getting QB Michael Penix Jr. back from injury for his 2026 debut in Week 3. Hopefully the return of Penix can help get one of Atlanta's offensive superstars rolling in the passing game.
Falcons offensive coordinator Tommy Rees gave an interesting answer to a question about the tight end position in a recent interview. He acknowledged that Kyle Pitts has not been very involved through two weeks.
“With your stats it doesn't say so, but yeah I'm with you. We do love tight ends and Kyle certainly fits that mold,” Rees told reporters on Wednesday, via ESPN BET. “Like I said, we take a lot of pride in that. Getting him going is something that's important to us. It's got to fit into what we're doing, and it certainly does. Kyle's done nothing but work his tail off, put himself in the right spots. We hit him up the seam a few weeks ago, it's a big-play opportunity that we miss. And we had another one batted.”
The former fourth overall pick has just one reception for 15 yards after two games. Pitts has only received four total targets this season.
It is surprising to see Atlanta give Pitts so little attention early in the season. Especially after giving Pitts a $54 million contract extension this offseason.
Rees did admit that the Falcons need to do a better job of getting Pitts involved in the passing game.
“We got to make sure that we're finding ways for him to impact the game,” Rees added. “We've had a couple of missed opportunities, but again we can do better to allow him to do that.”
It will be exciting to see if Pitts is more heavily involved in the game plan in Week 3. Atlanta may need him to have a big game if they want to finally get into the win column.
Falcons at Packers kicks off at 8:15PM ET on September 24th from Lambeau Field.
