The Atlanta Falcons' Kevin Stefanski is running out of patience with his team after a 34-3 home loss to the Carolina Panthers that saw critics like Robert Griffin III blasting Cooper Rush and discussing a possible return. The Falcons need better QB play in the worst way now Michael Penix Jr.'s return date is coming into focus.

Stefanski gave his honest take on Atlanta's brutal loss after the game, making his feelings clear as he stated an obvious and unavoidable truth.

“Obviously, extremely disappointed in that game,” the Falcons' boss said according to reporter Will McFadden.

Rush was benched in favor of Jack Strand after throwing a pick-six, a move that didn't pay off on a day of unbridled frustration in the ATL. Five total turnovers proved to be the Falcons' undoing as they were outgained by Dave Canales' team and ceded 287 total yards and three touchdowns to former top pick Bryce Young.

Penix Jr. wasn't a number one overall pick, but he showed a lot of promise last season and is looking like he's capable of returning soon. Coach Stefanski's team has a strong enough running game, led by Bijan Robinson, to help Penix Jr. ease into the flow of the action if he does make his return on Sept. 24 against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.

The Packers have problems of their own, but the Falcons will almost certainly be the underdog. Rush isn't a bad backup quarterback, but Stefanski's comments offer a clear glimpse into his headspace. Atlanta needs a win in the worst way, and Penix Jr. might be just the guy to provide one in Week 3.
