Howard Wilkinson has been given a unique new role at Sheffield Wednesday.
The ex-England caretaker boss has been named among three new Lifetime Presidents at the League One club.
Wilkinson joined Lord David Blunkett and Clive Betts in the new role and fans immediately gave their seal of approval to the decision.
Sheffield Wednesday announced the news before their fixture against Stockport on Saturday giving fans a reason to celebrate a key figure in the clubâÂÂs history.
Wilkinson enjoyed a successful stint in charge of the Owls before later taking over at Leeds United in 1988.
His greatest club achievement came in 1992 when he guided Leeds to the First Division title.
The feat makes Wilkinson the last English manager to win the top flight.
It was there that Wilkinson made the decision to sell Eric Cantona to Alex Ferguson's Manchester United for ã1.2m.ÃÂ
The forward went on to fire the Red Devils to four Premier League titles in five seasons.
Wilkinson was an FA figurehead
Wilkinson later became the FAâÂÂs Technical Director and played a crucial role in the planning and opening of EnglandâÂÂs national Football Centre.
He also enjoyed multiple spells as England caretaker boss.
His first stint came in 1999, following Glenn HoddleâÂÂs departure, taking charge of a friendly against France.
A year later, he returned after Kevin Keegan quit the post and oversaw a goalless draw against Finland.
He also had a spell in charge of England Under-21s before resigning in June 2001.
But his affiliation with Sheffield Wednesday was arguably his strongest connection across his long career in football.ÃÂ
The club said the new honorary positions recognise their 'significant contributions' to Wednesday, the local community and the wider city of Sheffield.
The appointments are doing much to improve the atmosphere around the club following a tumultuous period in the clubâÂÂs history under the guidance of former owner Dejphon Chansiri.
Owls fans hold Wilkinson in high regard for his past achievements with the club.
