The UCF Golden Knights pulled off a massive shock by knocking off the No. 2 BYU Cougars 39-31 in double overtime. However, they were helped by a controversial roughing the kicker penalty in the second overtime that allowed them to score what turned out to be the winning touchdown. It was the first win over a Top 5 AP ranked team in UCF football history.
While getting interviewed on the field after the game, UCF head coach Scott Frost could not help but acknowledge the weirdness surrounding how the game ended.
“Proud of our kids. I'm happy for UCF. That's the weirdest ending to a game I've ever seen. I thought it would take 31 to win it. It should have, or we would've gotten a sneak in. I'm so happy for our kids,” Frost said.
For the second straight game, BYU has been involved in a controversial ending. The Cougars were on the winning side of a wild ending against then-No. 2 Notre Dame as they got some calls go their way. This time, they were on the wrong end of the referees' whistle.

The Golden Knights were still missing starting quarterback Alonza Barnett III as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Keyonte Jenkins stepped up with one of, if not the best game of his career. He finished with 293 passing yards and four total touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) to lead the Knights to victory.
Next up, Scott Frost's team will be in action against Baylor on Friday.
