The Green Bay Packers just had one of their most embarrassing performances, especially offensively, in recent memory, and it's not about to be forgotten anytime soon.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur seemed to have no idea what happened as he addressed the media after his team's 35-14 loss on Thursday at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.
“Got to try to figure out what we do well, and right now I don’t know what we’re doing well offensively,” LaFleur said (h/t Rob Demovsky of ESPN).
Green Bay's ineptitude on offense can be summed up by the fact that the Packers punted the ball five times. Punter Daniel Whelan had a busy night, as the Packers went 6-of-15 on third downs and 2-of-3 on fourth downs.
It looked as though it was going to be a big night for Jordan Love and company when they struck first in the opening period via a four-yard touchdown reception by wide receiver Christian Watson. It was all Falcons from that point forward, with running back Bijan Robinson leading the charge. Robinson ran all over Green Bay for 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries.
As Green Bay's attack floundered, Atlanta's offense flourished in Michael Penix Jr.'s first game back from a long absence. Penix went 18-of-25 for 256 passing yards and a touchdown with an interception, while wide receiver Drake London erupted for 194 receiving yards on nine receptions an d 10 targets.
Conversely, Jordan Love completed just 28 of his 53 throws for two touchdowns and an interception.
The 1-2 Packers will regroup and hope for a better result in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
