The Miami Dolphins will be without one of their most intriguing young offensive weapons when they host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. Wide receiver Caleb Douglas has officially been ruled out after suffering an ankle injury late in Miami’s 35-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Douglas did not practice throughout the week. This prompted head coach Jeff Hafley to confirm that the pass-catcher will miss Sunday’s matchup. His absence is another blow to an offense searching for answers after opening the 2026 campaign 0-2.
Douglas had quickly carved out a meaningful role in the Dolphins' offense. He was working as a boundary target and vertical threat for quarterback Malik Willis. Miami will also likely be without running back Jaylen Wright. The latter is doubtful with foot and stinger issues. That could place additional pressure on De’Von Achane and Ollie Gordon II against a Kansas City defense led by Chris Jones. On the positive side, Chris Bell is expected to play despite dealing with knee soreness.
Selected 75th overall by Miami in the 2026 NFL Draft, Douglas arrived with an intriguing combination of size and speed. He stands nearly 6-foot-4 while reportedly running a 4.39-second 40-yard dash. He earned an 89% offensive snap share through Miami’s first two games and quickly demonstrated his big-play potential. Douglas caught five passes for 94 yards against Las Vegas before reaching seven receptions for 113 yards through two contests. His early momentum now pauses with the ankle injury. This leaves Miami to lean more heavily on Bell, Jalen Tolbert, Malik Washington and Kevin Coleman Jr against the Chiefs.
