After landing a monster trade for Quenton Nelson that sent a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts, the Seattle Seahawks released Christian Haynes to make room on their roster, subjecting the 2024 third-round pick out of UConn to waivers.
On Wednesday, the official waiver claims list was announced, and at first, it looked like the Baltimore Ravens were the big winners, with NFL Insiders like Adam Schefter announcing the news on social media, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. No, as it turns out, the Miami Dolphins actually submitted a claim of their own, and because they held a higher spot on the wire claims list, they were awarded Haynes' services.
“A waiver shakeup: Despite Baltimore announcing it claimed former Seahawks G Christian Haynes, the Miami Dolphins actually did,” Schefter wrote. “The Dolphins have a higher claim and were awarded Haynes.”
Article Continues BelowCelebrated coming out of Connecticut for his incredible athletic gifts, including running a 5.03 40-yard dash time at the 2024 NFL Draft Combine, Haynes has appeared in 31 regular season games with five starts for the Seahawks, logging 409 total offensive snaps over his tenure in Seattle. While Haynes spent the first half of the 2025 season on IR and barely played after his return, he started five games for the Seahawks in 2026 and likely would have remained in the mix at the position if Nelson hadn't been acquired.
But because Nelson was acquired, the Seahawks opted to send Haynes packing, freeing him up to find a new opportunity elsewhere. As it turns out, that landing spot in Miami, not Baltimore, but the opportunity to continue his NFL career continues all the same.
