The Los Angeles Dodgers are preparing for the MLB postseason. Roki Sasaki has been recovering from a blister on his right middle finger. While he has been trending in the right direction, will Sasaki be ready for the postseason? Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic provided the latest update on Sasaki.

“Roki Sasaki will throw a simulated game tomorrow and will not start this week, Dave Roberts said. The Dodgers are still figuring out if he will start a game before the end of the regular season or if he will come back as a reliever,” Ardaya reported.

It previously seemed as if Sasaki was close to returning. In all reality, Sasaki may still return fairly soon — it just won't be this week.

Dodgers fans will remember that Sasaki spent last postseason in the bullpen. While his first two regular seasons in MLB as a starter have been underwhelming, the right-handed pitcher performed well out of the bullpen last October. He recorded a stellar 0.84 ERA across nine outings to go along with three saves.

The Dodgers certainly wouldn't mind a similar postseason performance from Sasaki in 2026. One has to imagine that having him work out of the bullpen in the playoffs makes the most sense for LA, but it seems as if the ball club is still at least open to the idea of him starting again this year.
