Coach Aaron Glenn's New York Jets entered Week 2 with tough news, losing safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to an injury as they entered their 19th straight game without an interception, an NFL record. The offense also struggled in the injury department, losing a talented rookie receiver before the game.
The Jets fought hard, holding a high-powered Jordan Love-led Packers offense to under 200 total yards (199), but it wasn't enough as Green Bay won, 20-17. The zero-interception streak also continued as Love played the entire game and did not throw a pick against defensive coordinator Brian Duker's unit.
The game was sloppy and riddled with 27 penalties, 14 on the Packers' side and 13 on coach Glenn's side. Duker's defense was a bright spot, but the Frank Reich-led New York offense failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities, recording 285 yards but not scoring enough for the Jets to obtain their second win of the season.
The Jets will hit the road for September 27's game at Ford Field against a Detroit Lions team whose defense looked lost in the early going against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. The Lions' offense has been strong so far this season under coach Dan Campbell, who gave Glenn his big coaching break as defensive coordinator in January 2021.
The Jets' rookies have looked strong so far this season, but the Lions are a veteran team with Super Bowl aspirations used to playing tough competition in the NFC North. Glenn will likely receive a warm welcome from Detroit fans, but Campbell is not the type of coach to show mercy on friends.
The Jets must bring their A game, or the Lions could run them off the field and send them home with an all-too-familiar losing record, and perhaps their 20th straight game without an interception.
