Dak Prescott owned most of the career quarterbacking records for the Cowboys before SundayâÂÂs game against the Commanders kicked off and he broke one of the other ones late in the fourth quarter.
PrescottâÂÂs 24-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb was the 249th of his career, which broke a tie with Tony Romo for the most of any player in Cowboys history. It also put the finishing touches on a 37-20 Cowboys win and Prescott discussed how much the record means to him while wearing a Roger Staubach jersey at his postgame press conference.
Prescott also said he hopes to add a lot more touchdowns to the ledger before heâÂÂs done in Dallas.
âÂÂIâÂÂm blessed, honored,â Prescott said, via the teamâÂÂs website. âÂÂAs I told you earlier in the week, records are meant to be broken. This is my time to break this one. Pretty cool to do it against the team I threw my first touchdown against ten years ago or so. Definitely humbling, something I donâÂÂt take for granted. The great history of this organization, of the past quarterbacks before me. . . . Super, super honored. Super thankful. GodâÂÂs great. Not taking it lightly. But as I told you, itâÂÂs just the beginning. I want to double it and plan to play for a while, so just getting started.âÂÂ
PrescottâÂÂs place in the franchise record book will be secure regardless of what happens from here, but his place in the history of the franchise overall is still lacking the signature postseason wins that predecessors like Staubach and Troy Aikman have in their bios. SundayâÂÂs win doesnâÂÂt rank at that level, but it helps the Cowboysâ bid to get Prescott in position to deliver one.
