Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has been reinstated from the injured list, the team announced Friday. Swanson was expected to return for the Cubs' series against the Cincinnati Reds, but it is now official. Infielder BJ Murray Jr. was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Swanson has not appeared in a game since early August due to an oblique injury. The fact that he is returning now is important, as not only will the Cubs have him available for the final stretch run of the season, but Swanson will get around a week of playing time before the postseason begins.
