The Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys are two teams moving in opposite directions headed into Week 6. Dallas got schooled by Tampa Bay in Week 5 and their new-look defense has looked terrible for multiple games in a row. Their offensive production has also been streaky to say the least. Meanwhile, the Packers are riding a two-game winning streak and just beat the pulp out of the Bears at Lambeau Field.

Green Bay will host Dallas at Lambeau once again in primetime this weekend. Packers fans will be out in full force and create a hostile environment for the Cowboys. But Dallas is absolutely desperate for a win, which means anything could happen in this game.

So which team will come out on top in this one? And who will fans learn more about based on the game's result?

Here are three bold predictions ahead of the Week 6 matchup between the Cowboys and Packers on Sunday Night Football.

The offenses may be more important than the defenses in this game.

There is a clear mismatch on paper when comparing the Packers and Cowboys defenses so far this season. But just a quick look at each offense shows that this game could easily become a shootout.

Both the Cowboys and Packers are both top five teams this season in terms of passing yards per game. Green Bay averages 271.0 passing yards per game, with Dallas right behind them at 269.6. If two teams are going to get into a high-scoring slugfest, it would be these two.

It's interesting that both teams are getting it done in different ways. Dallas has a duo of elite wide receivers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Meanwhile, the Packers are enjoying Christian Watson's breakout season that has unlocked the entire offense.

Ultimately, this game could be decided by which quarterback has a better game.

Prescott and Love will combine for more than 750 passing yards on Sunday Night Football. If split evenly, each quarterback would need at least 375 passing yards to make this happen. Obviously that would be a great game for each of them.

Fans will fall in love with this game if there truly are this many fireworks.

Javonte Williams has best game of the season against vulnerable Packers defense

One area where the Cowboys have an advantage is the running game.

The Packers have the worst rushing attack in football with just 60.4 yards per game this season. A combination of offensive line injuries and the lack of Josh Jacobs has completely neutralized this unit.

Now the Cowboys aren't that much better on paper. They rank 30th in the league with 81.6 rushing yards per game. That doesn't sound like a big difference, but it is.

The biggest reason to have confidence in the Dallas running game is Javonte Williams. He has been solid throughout the season, but has yet to have a truly special game in terms of rushing yards. In fact, he's yet to go over 100 rushing yards in a game this season.

Dallas activated All-Pro guard Tyler Smith from injured reserve before last week's game. There's reason to believe he could make an impact on the ground, especially now that he's had a week to get settled.

Williams gets his 100-yard rushing game against the Packers, bringing some much-needed stability to the Dallas offense.

This could make the difference in this game, as Dallas is better positioned to control the clock if they can gain a lead in the second half.

Cowboys win a close one-score game… thanks to a huge play by their defense

The Cowboys invested a ton in their defense this offseason after last year's struggles. But they simply haven't looked up to the job so far in 2026.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went out and hired Mike Pettine to help improve the defense alongside defensive coordinator Christian Parker. It may take some time before that addition actually moves the needle, if it does at all. But simply having a veteran coach in defensive meetings could improve one or two small things right away in Week 6.

It doesn't take much for a terrible defense to improve. Look no further than the Lions, who still have the league's worst defensive unit. They stood up to the Cardinals with their backs against the wall in Week 5. It's not crazy to assume the Cowboys could pull off a similar case of positive regression.

This entire game could tilt in Dallas' favor if they can just make a few big plays on defense.

The Cowboys will win this game by making a big defensive play to seal this game. Think a decisive stop on a crucial fourth down or a game-winning turnover in the fourth quarter.
