After the Dallas Cowboys practically laughed at the Texans’ defensive coverage Sunday, co-owner Stephen Jones expressed confidence in Brian Schottenheimer. And Jones also said the door hasn't closed on the Cowboys adding even more talent after the Joey Porter Jr. trade, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.
“Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones, when asked on @1053thefan about potentially upgrading their pass rush: “We’re always looking to get better. If we can find an opportunity to get better, we’ll certainly look at that opportunity. At the same time, I think we’ve got a chance to get better with what we have on this football team, which is encouraging as well. No, we’d never rule out improving our team, whether it’s pressure or whatever it is.”
Cowboys happy with CB Joey Porter Jr. after one game
Porter had a good debut for the Cowboys in their 34-30 win over the Texans. He played 46.2% of the team’s defensive snaps. And Texans quarterback CJ Stroud didn’t throw a lot of balls his way. Stroud targeted Porter just once in 19 snaps of pass coverage, according to Next Gen Stats via dallascowboys.com.
Porter said he’s trying to learn the defense quickly.
“Hook (Malik Hoker) and (Caleb) Downs were communicating with me all game, all throughout the week,” Porter said.

“That's why I wasn't really out there too much,” Porter said. “But all the times I was out there, I was comfortable with the calls. The defense was helping me, Downs, Hook. They were talking to me all game, so shout out to them boys because without them I wouldn't even have been able to play out there.”
The Cowboys got the win despite giving up a lot of points to the Texans. However, Porter pointed out that the team got the job done in the final analysis.
“We've got to finish, and that's exactly what we did when the ball was on us, when it was on the defense,” Porter said.
