With the Dallas Cowboys preparing for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 on Sunday, the team is coming off a bounce-back 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. An interesting aspect of the win was the snap count of Cowboys star wide receiver George Pickens after he was called out by head coach Brian Schottenheimer for his impact in the rushing attack, leading to this NFL insider discussing the trade potential.

While the trade deadline is on Nov. 10, one person asks league insider Tom Pelissero on Substack about the possibility of Dallas trading Pickens before then, despite Jerry Jones saying that it's a low chance that a move would be made. Pelissero would say that he isn't ruling “anything out,” especially with an edge rusher in need, though the inclusion of Pickens is another question.

“Making as many trades as the Cowboys have since the Micah Parsons blockbuster naturally depletes draft capital—but if there’s a will, there’s a way. Edge rusher is the biggest need on Dallas’s defense, so I wouldn’t rule anything out. They were, after all, the runner-up in the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes last March,” Pelissero wrote.

Along with Pickens recording four catches for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' win over the Eagles, he played 12 fewer total snaps than Ryan Flournoy. This comes after Schottenheimer said on Oct. 22 that Pickens “needs to understand that he impacts us in the running game as well,” but when it comes to his trade status, Pelissero expressed that he would be “surprised” if Dallas traded him ahead of the deadline.

“As for Pickens, he’s still an important piece of the Dallas offense, and the Cowboys won’t be out of the NFC East race in 12 days,” Pelissero continued. “Also, he’s making over $1.5 million on the franchise tag, so a team would need a big chunk of cash and cap space to make it work.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen what the Cowboys do before the trade deadline and how Pickens progresses throughout the season with the team.
