With a purpose, perhaps, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer made a dirty-work demand of George Pickens. And Pickens responded with a nice TD grab. However, a Cowboys insider highlighted an eyebrow-raising George Pickens snap count after the Schottenheimer callout.

It seems like Pickens got the short end of the stick against the Eagles on Monday Night Football, according to a post on X by Bobby Belt.

“After being called out by Brian Schottenheimer for his run blocking, George Pickens played 12 total snaps fewer than Ryan Flournoy, the vast majority of which came in run situations. Pickens played 13 run snaps compared to 28 for Flournoy and 27 for Lamb.”

And Jerry Jones followed up with his comment, according to a post on X by Jon Machota.

“Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan: ‘All of our receivers blocked well (Monday night). That’s a credit to coaching. That’s a point of emphasis.’ ”

How are things going for WR George Pickens with Cowboys?

Pickens had something to say on his own behalf, according to a post on X by Nick Harris. Will his dialogue bring more targets?

“Cowboys WR George Pickens on what he can do to be more involved in the offense: ‘Well, I’m doing what they tell me to do. So, do what they tell me to do.’

“On Schottenheimer saying he needs to block better: ‘I feel like if you narrow the comments down, you’re talking about the team. Most definitely, I feel like as a team, just keep improving.’ ”

For the season, Pickens has received double-digit targets three times in the Cowboys’ seven games. Against the Eagles, with the limited run snaps, Pickens had only six targets, matching his second-lowest total of the season.

Perhaps most importantly, the Cowboys flew over the Eagles 38-21, ending a losing skid and putting themselves in a better position in the NFC East.

Maybe it’s because Schottenheimer got angry with the team, according to The Athletic.

“Definitely a hungry, pissed-off version of Shotty,” Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said. “It’s not like he’s naive. It’s not like he hadn’t heard some noise about him, and whether it’s calling the games or whatever doubt that’s been out there.”
