The Dallas Cowboys are all set to welcome linebacker DeMarvion Overshown back to the lineup for their Week 7 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. After missing five consecutive games with a hamstring injury, Overshown has been medically cleared to return, giving Dallas another option at linebacker following Dee Winters' recent injury.

Overshown suffered the hamstring injury during the season-opening loss to the New York Giants and has been working toward his comeback ever since. The former third-round pick confirmed on Tuesday that he was ready to resume practicing and was excited about the opportunity to play again.

“That's the plan, so I'm ready for practice,” said Overshown, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. “It's crazy. We play on Monday now, so now I got to wait an extra day. But I'm excited. I've definitely taken this rehab, this recovery very serious. I've been trying to get back on the field since the week after I got out. So getting this opportunity to go this week, I'm thankful that I'm still able to get to do what I love.”

Overshown's comeback arrives at a pivotal time for the Cowboys. Winters strained his Achilles during the team's 23-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 6 and is expected to miss the Philadelphia game. His absence creates another challenge for a defense that has been a liability throughout the season.

Dallas surrendered 11 conversions on 18 third-down attempts versus Green Bay after allowing the Packers to convert their first seven opportunities. The Cowboys, now 2-4, have had their defensive woes exacerbated by injuries that have complicated matters for first-year defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Overshown could line up alongside rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham, who has handled the defensive communication responsibilities in his absence. He previously wore the green dot as an on-field communicator, although he admitted he did not know who would assume that responsibility against the Eagles.

His return is expected to come with a limited workload as he builds back up following the hamstring injury. Dallas will also have to decide how best to use him, with the 26-year-old expected to return to weakside linebacker rather than his previous inside role.

Overshown has recorded 125 tackles, five sacks, one interception, four passes defended and one forced fumble during his NFL career. However, injuries have severely restricted his availability. He has appeared in 20 games and missed 38, including time lost to two separate ACL injuries in consecutive seasons.

Overshown previously demonstrated his potential during the 2024 season before another serious knee injury interrupted his progress. Now, with five games missed because of his latest setback, he will have an opportunity to help the Cowboys versus their division rival as the team looks to improve its defensive performance.
