Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker isn't concerned about senior defensive assistant Mike Pettine's absence from team practices. Instead, Parker believes the veteran coach can contribute to the Cowboys' defensive preparations without spending every session on the field, following Pettine's recent arrival in Dallas.
Pettine has taken an unconventional approach to his responsibilities, focusing on film study and game-planning rather than attending practices alongside the rest of the coaching staff.
According to Jon Machota, the Cowboys believe Pattine's time is better spent analyzing opponents and helping develop defensice strategies behind the scenes.
When asked about the arrangement, Parker offered a humorous response that suggested he had no concerns about Pettine's absence.
“There's a lot of people on the practice field that don't need to be there,” Parker joked
The remark highlighted Parker's willingness to let members of his coaching staff contribute in different ways rather than requiring everyone to follow the same routine.
For Pettine, whose coaching background includes experience as an NFL defensive coordinator and head coach, the arrangement allows him to concentrate on preparation and analysis.
His responsibilities remain important even without a regular presence on the practice field, particularly when it comes to studying opposing offenses and identifying potential adjustments.
