On Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Vikings stormed back from a double-digit deficit to earn what turned out to be a comfortable home win over the divisional rival Green Bay Packers to kick off their season. Carson Wentz was thrust into action in this one after starting quarterback Kyler Murray went down in the first half with a concussion on a vicious hit.

Now, some are wondering whether Wentz might end up being the long-term starter at quarterback for Minnesota even once Murray is back and healthy.

“If Carson Wentz and this team continues to win, I don't know how you go back to [Kyler Murray],” said NFL veteran Leger Douzable of CBS Sports on X, formerly Twitter.

Meanwhile, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky stopped by ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show and broke down his thoughts on Wentz amid the impressive game.

“Carson Wentz is like a three point shooter.. The rollercoaster that we're talking about.. How long can he stay on the high and avoid those extended lows,” he said, per Pat McAfee on X.

Indeed, Wentz has become known for his streaky play at times throughout his NFL career, dating back to the Philadelphia Eagles, whom he led during the first half of the Super Bowl season back in 2017.

Heading into this season, Wentz largely wasn't on fans' radar as an option at quarterback, as the positional competition came down to Murray and JJ McCarthy, with Murray ultimately ending up winning the job.

At this point, it's unclear how long Murray will be sidelined with the injury, but it may be tempting for head coach Kevin O'Connell to stick with Wentz as long as he is producing like he did against the Packers.
