In Week 2, the Marcus Mariota-led Washington Commanders upset the Seattle Seahawks, the reigning Super Bowl champions, much to superfan Matthew McConaughey‘s delight.
The Oscar-winning actor took to X, formerly Twitter, to reflect on the game after the Commanders' win. He was also happy with the halftime tributes to late franchise icons Sonny Jurgensen and Monte Coleman.
“Redskin greats honored at halftime and a [Commanders] victory at home knocking off the reigning SB champs. [Call me hand emoji] Mariota. Hail,” he wrote.

To the surprise of many, Mariota was able to pull off the stunning upset against the Seahawks. He was efficient, completing 19 of his 31 pass attempts for 183 yards and three touchdowns. He finished the game without turning it over.
The Commanders' offense found ways to score despite the running game being almost nonexistent. Jacory Croskey-Merritt finished with 36 yards on 19 carries, averaging just 1.9 yards per carry. Rachaad White finished with 36 yards on eight carries.
Mariota is filling in for an injured Jayden Daniels, who suffered a grotesque elbow injury in the team's Week 2 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
In his limited playing time, Mariota has passed for 294 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers. We'll see if he can keep it up as the Commanders prepare for a London game against the Indianapolis Colts and matchups against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Los Angeles Rams, the New York Giants, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Sam Darnold had a good game for the Seahawks. He threw two interceptions, but he also threw four touchdowns. Like the Commanders, the Seahawks couldn't run the ball well. Their leading rusher, Jadarian Price, only had 15 yards. Their next highest rusher, Emanuel Wilson, only had 14 yards. Collectively, the team finished with 44 yards on 18 carries, averaging 2.4 yards per attempt.
